a directional backlight modulation layer

2012
A directional backlight (also called 'backlight' or 'back light') (100, 200, 230, 300, 340, 400, 500, 600), comprising: a 'Backplane' (also called 'backplane', 'backplane' or 'bottom panel') directional (125a, 205, 235, 305, 345, 405, 505, 605) having different directional pixels (115a-d, 210, 240, 350a-d, 425-435 , 525-535, 620) for dispersing different light beams input planes (110, 215, 245, 315, 355, 410-420, 510-520, 610-620) as various beams directional light (120a- d, 220, 250, 320a-d, 360a-d), so that each beam directional light has a direction and an angular dispersion which are controlled by the characteristics of a directional pixel various directional pixels; and modulation layer (130) having different modulators (225, 255, 325a-d, 370a-d, 455, 555, 625) to modulate or modify the various beams of directional light, so that the various directional pixels and various modulators are configured so that directional beams of light scattered by the directional pixels and modulated by modulators represent multiple views of an image which, when combined, form a 3D image.
