Understanding the Inheritance Influence of “Cultural Capital”: Challenges Faced By First-Generation Engineering Students

Human beings are created of elements that reflect not only their ideologies but also their identity. The inheritance of these elements on a prima facie level reflects the kind of culture that one is born into. Nullifying the impact of stereotypes thereby brought into the cultural code of a certain social strata, this research delves deeper from narratives collected through 30 first-generation college (FGC) students of a private engineering college in West Bengal, to explore the significant features of FGC students.
