It is an opto-electronic device (1) comprising a semiconductor chip (2) having an intended for generating radiation active region specified, wherein - the semiconductor chip in the emission direction (21), a radiation conversion element (3) is arranged downstream; - the radiation conversion element having a plurality of conversion elements (4) each having an axis of symmetry (40); - a spatial orientation of the axes of symmetry having a preferred direction (45); having a preferential polarization (48) emitted from the one radiation conversion element (3) radiation -; and - the optoelectronic device comprises a reflective polarizing element (5) which is arranged downstream of the radiation conversion element in the emission direction, wherein the reflective polarizing element radiation with the preferential polarization passes predominantly, and a polarized perpendicular to the preferred polarization beam predominantly reflected. Furthermore, a method for preparing a radiation conversion element (3) is specified.
