Influence of temperature on the production of antibiotic molecules in Bacillus amyloliquefaciens strain HNA3.

The mechanisms of antibiotics production are complex and still in part not completely clear, mainly because of the different nature of antibiotic compounds themselves. The antibiotic production plays its fundamental role in the competition between two or more species for the same source of energy, food included. Moreover, bacteria often produce more than one antibiotic molecule, as proved by different researches. A strain of Bacillus amyloliquefaciens HNA3 isolated in a surgery room was tested for its ability to produce antibiotic compounds against both gram positive and gram negative bacteria and against pathogenic fungi (a complete list is reported in table 1). In particular, a possible influence of environmental temperature on B.amyloliquefaciens strain HNA3 antimicrobial activity was investigated. Temperature is able to affect heavily antibiotics production and the molecular mechanisms regulating the antibiotic compounds production have to be studied in order to optimize the antibiotics biosinthesis for industrial applications.
