Laser Vascular Application: Reconstructive and Reparative

1986
The reconstruction and the repair of vascular structures has been an important goal in neurosurgery for many decades. Advancements have been forthcoming through new instruments, improved suture materials and better visualization. The development of the CO2 laser as a surgical instrument for ablation is well accepted. A microsurgically adapted CO2 laser can provide reconstructive and reparative capabilities. This chapter will highlight the application of an M-CO2 laser system made specifically for these purposes, providing application in the micro-mode, with micron spot-size and with milliwatt power exposure.
