A method for preparing a molecular sieve comprising the steps of heating a molecular sieve comprising at least one template within its crystalline microporous structure under conditions effective to separate a portion of the template of the microporous structure, and cooling the molecular sieve warmed to leave an amount of template and / or degradation product thereof effective to cover catalytic sites within the microporous structure.
