Analysis of polychlorinated phenoxyphenols by the combination of gas chromatography with mass spectrometry and gas chromatography with atomic emission detection

2004
The formula and structure of the polychlorinated phenoxyphenols compounds obtained from heterogeneously catalytic hydrodecholrination of triclosan were identified by gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (GC/MS). Mass fraction of these compounds was determined by GC/atomic emission detection (AED) through C channel (496 nm) with n-eicosane as internal standard. By using the results from different channels (479 nm for Chlorine and 171 nm for Oxygen), the mass fractions of these compounds were consistent. This is a convenient and reliable method for the qualitative and quantitative analysis of complex chemical reaction products especially those contain heter-atoms when standard are not available.
