Study of some non simple liquids

2017
The H-bonded liquids are associated liquids which constitute a very important class of molecular liquids with abnormality in various structural and thermo-physical properties. One most challenging task in the field is the determination of associative structure i.e. molecular association or cluster in liquid state in both ambient and non-ambient conditions. During last 2-3 decades very large number of reports have appearred through the able implementation of statistical mechanical models with advances in experimental (x-ray, neutron, Raman scattering, NMR), computer techniques and the combination of them. The structural data coming from the experiments, diffraction experiments in particular, can be interpreted more readily by reference to geometrical models and results, of course, yield some average picture. Water, the most important and simplest liquid in this class, exhibits many abnormal properties. The intermolecular structure of liquid water was established as tetrahedral pentamer C2v cluster in dominant form. In this book, using neutron data we have established how the tetrahedral network structure is destroyed at elevated temperature, such as 250C.
