Envejecer en Valparaíso. Memorias urbanas de la poblacion adulta mayor y desafios para la intervencion social / Aging in Valparaiso. Urban memories of the adult population and challenges for social intervention

The article presents the results of an investigation that aims to rescue the urban memory of the older adult population of the city of Valparaiso to enrich the processes of urban development and the formulation of public policies aimed at aging. Methodologically, a narrative descriptive qualitative design is proposed, based on thematic life stories of older adult subjects. The results provide the configuration of urban memories linked to historical trades; services, commerce or industries; social participation; and emergencies, catastrophes and reconstruction. It also reveals two challenges for social intervention, linked to urban development in a market context and the difficulties of the older adult population in the development of their daily activities in the city.
