6563 Background: As one solution to reducing costs and medical bankruptcies, experts such as the Institute of Medicine and ASCO have suggested patients and physicians should discuss the cost of care before doing the treatment. Whether these discussions are possible in an oncology setting, and their effects on the doctor-patient relationship are not known. We could find no published study of actual patients reviewing their costs in real time with their oncologist. Methods: We used the National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN) Guidelines and the eviti Advisor platform to show patients with metastatic breast, lung, or colorectal cancer the costs associated with their treatment options during an oncology consultation. We measured provider attitudes and assessed patient satisfaction when the consultations included the costs of expected care.
