It is getting increasingly clear that electric power systems are undergoing rapid changes due to deregulation, the penetration of new technologies and the adoption of efficient computation, communications and control mechanisms. The primary goal of this paper is to recognize the importance of education and the training of future protection engineers, and, secondly, to suggest course content needed to meet this challenge.
