Study on the Use of An Ileostomy Tube Via the Appendiceal Stump to Control Colorectal Leakage

2008
Objective:To explore the clinical value about an ileostomy tube via the appendiceal stump to control colorectal leakage. Methods:Between 2002 and 2007,62 patients with colorectal leakage underwent the tube-single ileostomy through appendiceal root(researching-group)and the traditional temporary loop ileostomy to protect the low anastomosis(control-group)after surgeries on transverse colon, descending colon, rectal damage and tumors.Stoma-related complications and peri-operative morbidity after ileostomy closure were assessed retrospectively by reviewing the medical records. Results:All 32 patients in researching-group were completely recovered without complications or mortality. While the medical fees and the incidence of complications of the control-group were significantly higher that those of the researching-group.Conclusion:For patients with colorectal leakage after surgeries on transverse colon, descending colonic, rectal damage and tumors, appendectomy plus an ileostomy tube via the appendiceal stump to control colorectal leakage was easy and it could avoid reoperation and complications, which was valuable for clinical application.
