Uso de péptidos neurales modificados como tratamiento de una lesión en la médula espinal: una vision general Use of neural-derived peptides as therapy for spinal cord injury: an overview

2015
Spinal cord injury ( sci ) is a phenomenon that damages the central nervous system ( snc ) causing the loss of physiological activity beneath the injured area. Currently, no effective treatment exists against sci in the clinical field. The role of the immune system through protective autoimmunity ( pa ) -a physiological phenomenon developed after sci -could be of great relevance to induce neuroprotection. pa can be stimulated by using neural-derived peptides ( ndp ), obtained from neural constituents like myelin basic protein. This article attempts to provide an overview of this innovative therapeutic strategy, which offers benefits and an en - couraging future. The most relevant basic principles, mechanisms and preclinical outcomes using the ndp a91 will be revealed. Finally, clinical obstacles to surpass will be stated.
