Nurses' perception about the effect of hospital information system in Iran

Internal customers of hospital information system(HIS) are typically called the users. These customers using this system every day, also evaluate the quality of the system. Users' understanding of the information system is important for acceptance and evaluation of the information system. Their satisfaction of the practical aspects of the system is very essential. This study evaluated nurses' attitudes of clinical departments towards hospital information system to introduce the effect of mechanized information system in nursing care.This study was conducted in teaching hospitals affiliated with Semnan university of medical sciences in Semnan, Iran. A questionnaire was developed to measure attitudes of nurses toward the effect of HIS on nursing care. Data analysis was performed by descriptive and Inferential statistics. Results showed notwithstanding most nurses had positive attitude to the information system. But some believed that the information system has had less effect on some nursing activities. Significant relationship was observed between attitude and participation status of nurses in information system development. According to the results obtained should be noted that the main element of an information system is the user. His satisfaction affects on the growth and survival of the information system. On the other hand, It seems that the understanding of the usefulness of an information system is related to users' knowledge and awareness about Information systems.
