Movimientos coreoatetósicos e hiperglicemia. A propósito de un caso. 12

2004
An 78 year old woman presented to the intensive care unit with an acute right hemiparesis and hyperglycemia. Her weakness gradually improved. Four days after her acute event, she developed choreoathetosis movements which resolved with the reestablishment of normoglycemia. Chorea movements result from pathologic changes or dysfunction of deep brain structure, predominantly the striatum and subthalamic nucleus and their interconnections. Chorea can be seen in a number of basal ganglia disorders and as a complication of medical, metab olic, and pharmacologic changes.
