exercise in 3-h postabsorptive women Luteal and follicular glucose fluxes during rest and

2014
Summary and conclusions. Results of this study in-dicate that 1 ) as seen in previous studies, glucose fluxis directly related to exercise intensity regardless ofmenstrual cycle phase; and 2 ) menstrual cycle phasedoes not alter glucose flux in rested, 3-h postabsorptivewomen during rest, moderate-intensity exercise (45%V˙ O 2 peak ), or high-intensity exercise (65% V˙ O 2 peak ). Incombination with the results of others (8, 44), we con-clude that the effects of endogenous ovarian hormoneson glucose flux and overall CHO oxidation are smallcompared with the much larger effects of exercise andrecent CHO nutrition. We thank the subjects for participating in this study. We alsothank Karen Porto, Joe Vivo, and Zinta Zarins, who provided muchof the laboratory support throughout the study. We are also gratefulto Jaimyoung Kwon who assisted with the statistical analysis. This work was supported by National Institute of Arthritis andMusculoskeletal and Skin Diseases Grant AR-42906.
