Bio-inspired Water Oxidation Catalysts for Solar Hydrogen Production

The recent developments in the production of hydrogen from water using photosynthetic catalysts, as a cleaner, greener and renewable fuel source is discussed. A naturally occurring water-oxidizing complex of photosystem II is used as a catalyst which photo-oxidizes water by four sequential photochemical steps to release oxygen and hydrogen ions.
