A Novel Approach to Reducing Defects in Manufacturing Processes

In this paper a novel approach is provided to set up the expected numbers of defects in a satisfactory final product. The numbers of defects are assumed to follow Poisson distributions. Penalty and improved costs are taken into account in the proposed cost model based on the numbers of defects found in a single product. The existence of optimum parameters via the cost model is proved analytically. The proposed method is helpful to improve the quality of final products in manufacturing process. Four examples are used to illustrate the application of the proposed method.
