Design and Analysis of Dual-Band Dual-Polarized Printed Antenna for Wireless Applications

2018
This paper presents design and analysis of a dual-band dual-polarized printed antenna for wireless applications. The antenna is designed as compact, with monopole on the top surface and modified ground on the bottom surface. It operates in two frequency bands: lower band 2.8-3.8 GHz (resonant frequency 3.15 GHz) and upper band 5.1-5.5 GHz (resonant frequency 5.4 GHz). In the lower band, the antenna operates as circularly polarized, while in the upper band it exhibits linear polarization. The axial ratio of the proposed antenna is observed for the lower band and its value is less than 3 dB in the range 3.1-3.85 GHz. The radiation pattern is presented for both resonant frequencies. The antenna gain is 2.3 dBi at 3.15 GHz and 6 dBi at 5.4 GHz. A fabricated prototype of the proposed antenna is used for the experimental verification. Measurement results show good agreement with the simulated ones, thus confirming dual-band antenna operation in the considered frequency bands for WiFi and WiMAX applications.
