Effect of temperature and alkyl chain length on molecular interactions in the binary mixtures of 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium methylsulphate with 1-alkanols (C3–C6)
2016
Abstract In the present investigation, a systematic study on densities ( ρ ), speeds of sound ( u ) in the binary mixtures of ionic liquid 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium methylsulphate [EMIM][MeSO 4 ] with 1-alkanols (1-propanol, 1-butanol, 1-pentanol, 1-hexanol) was presented over the entire range of composition at four different temperatures ranging from 298.15 K to 313.15 K. The experimental density ( ρ ) and speed of sound ( u ) data was used to compute excess volume ( V E ) and excess isentropic compressibility ( κ s E ). The excess properties ( V E and κ s E ) were fitted to Redlich-Kister and Hwang empirical equations to obtain fitting parameters and root mean square deviations. Further the obtained experimental results were analysed to study intermolecular interactions between ionic liquid [EMIM][MeSO 4 ] and 1-alkanols (C 3 to C 6 ) with change of temperature and alkyl chain length of 1-alkanols.
