The influence of different esthetic parameters on patient's satisfaction with own dental appearance

2010
The purpose of present study was to determine how some esthetic parameters explain the variability of patient’s satisfaction with maxillary anterior teeth appearance. The following measurements were made on 78 subjects: width and length of each maxillary anterior tooth, distal gingival zenith displacements, upper lip height, intercommisural width, maximal maxillary central incisal and gingival display at rest and smile. All the patients answered questions related to dental appearance. All the parameters have been analyzed with respect to gender. The most of the esthetic measurements were higher in men (P 0.05). Different esthetic parameters explained the variability of the statements in men and women by 99% (P>0.05). Within the population tested, the results suggest that the varying attitudes toward dental appearance must be acknowledged in esthetic anterior oral rehabilitation.
