Nutritional and Health Benefits of Seafoods

2020
Around the globe and especially in low- and middle-income countries, lifestyle-related ailments are a serious challenge for the near future. In numerous epidemiological and clinical studies, dietary habits have been shown to have a great influence on the susceptibility to develop certain disorders. Several researchers have hypothesized that the consumption of seafood has a great influence on human health. Omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids are present in seafood and are functional components with proven health benefits, such as anti-atherogenic and antithrombotic properties. Furthermore, seafood is considered an exclusive source of nutrients: proteins, fibers, amino acids, vitamins, and minerals. The core directive of this manuscript is to discuss the significance of functional ingredients with great impact on human health.
