Staphylococcal endocarditis: Results of combined antibiotic therapy in fourteen consecutive cases (1956–1959)

1962
Abstract Between January 1956 and December 1959 fourteen consecutive patients with staphylococ cal endocarditis were seen at the University of California Hospitals. Two of these were diagnosed only at autopsy and received no significant therapy. The remaining twelve were treated with "tailor made" antibiotic combinations and ten of them were cured, although the organisms in eight of these patients were completely penicillin resistant. The approach to and possible merits of specifically selected antibiotic combinations are illustrated and discussed.
