Tránsitos epistemológicos para estudiar las migraciones y las clases medias

2020
The immigrant subjects are trapped and participate in multiple class distinction and systems of inequality, both in the context of origin and destination. National classifications (from home and host countries); of class (belonging to certain classes and fractions); of age groups; ethnic identities; etc. cross the configuration of migrations as an object of study. Furthermore, the crossing of the legal border from one State to another involves a significant potential violation of migrant rights, as they engage in a web of social relations that marginalizes them towards precariousness and labor informality (weakness against employers and lack of State protection).  In this article, we will discuss some categories that designate the migratory phenomenon, marked by the domination relation that implies its study, at the same time betting object and of symbolic fights for its definition. We will frame our thoughts with a study of Argentine middle-class migrants in Spain, as a case in point where an overdetermined object of research on migration was constructed. The aim is to complex such categories as immigration and nationality og origin by incorporating variables into the study (class, age group, stage of migration, gender). To this end, we will provide from Bourdieu and Sayad's perspectives an analysis model that is capable of incorporating multiple dimensions to study migrations.
