Effect of Ti and C on crystallization process and magnetic properties of (Nd_(0.4)Pr_(0.6))_9Fe_(76)B_(15) melt-spun ribbons

(Nd_(0.4)Pr_(0.6))_9Fe_(76)B_(15) and(Nd_(0.4)Pr_(0.6))_9Fe_(72)Ti_4B_(15-y)C_y(y=0~4) ribbons were prepared by melt spinning.Effect of Ti and C on glass forming ability and crystallization process and magnetic properties of the ribbons were investigated.Glass forming ability(GFA) of the melt-spun ribbons was greatly promoted by the addition of Ti and C elements and increasing C content.The(Nd_(0.4)Pr_(0.6))_9Fe_(72)Ti_4B_(11)C_4 ribbon melt-spun by 7m/s was only composed of amorphous phase.The magnetic properties of B_r=0.88T,H_(ci)=618kA/m and (BH)_(max)=109.8kJ/m~3 were achieved in the ribbons optimally annealed.The results also show that Ti doping suppressed the formability of(Nd,Pr)_2Fe_(23)B_3 metastable phase and(Nd,Pr)_(1.1)Fe_4B_4 phase during crystallization and increased coercivity.The crystallization process of(Nd_(0.4)Pr_(0.6))_9Fe_(76)B_(15) melt-spun ribbons is amorphous phase(A)→(Nd,Pr)_2Fe_(23)B_3→(Nd,Pr)_2Fe_(14)B+α-Fe→(Nd,Pr)_2Fe_(14)B+(Nd,Pr)_(1.1)Fe_4B_4+α-Fe.That of(Nd_(0.4)Pr_(0.6))_9Fe_(72)Ti_4B_(15) melt-spun ribbons is amorhous phase(A)→α-Fe+A′→(Nd,Pr)_2Fe_(14)B+α-Fe+Fe_3B.
