Atrial Natriuretic Peptide and Atrial Size

1989
Enlarged plasma volume causes an increase of atrial size, and leads to a higher wall tension playing an important role in the secretion of ANP. Dependent on the compliance of the atrial myocardium different pressures may occur. Therefore it is likely that an atrial dilation — but not necessarily the increase of the atrial pressure — resulted in an increased ANP secretion.
