The Friedel-Crafts Reaction of Phosphorustrichloride with Toluene and Chlorobenzene

The Friedel-Crafts reaction of phosphorus trichloride with toluene and chlorobenzene was studied. The products were detected as the corresponding diethyl phosphonates by liqiud-gas chromatography.The o-, m-, and p-isomers were obtained ; the ratios of these isomers changed with the concentration of hydrogen chloride.
