Die Verwendung antibakteriell beschichteten Nahtmaterials reduziert Wundheilungsstörungen nach medianer Laparotomie

2008
Poor wound healing and the development of infections in incisional wounds continue to be the most common complications of open abdominal surgery. The probability of a patient developing a postoperative surgical site infection is influenced by numerous intrinsic and extrinsic risk factors present at the time of operation. The role of suture material in the development of wound infections has been subject of speculation among surgeons since the 1960s. Various bacteria may contaminate not only the tissue in the surgical wound but also the actual suture material. To prevent the contamination of suture material in surgical wounds triclosan-coated polyglactin 910 suture materials with antibacterial activity (»Vicryl plus«) was developed. The aim of the study was to find out if the use of triclosancoated polyglactin 910 sutures reduced the number of wound infections after midline laparotomy.
