Treatment of transplanted hepatocellular carcinoma in nude mice with local acetic acid injection

AIM To observe the effects of local acetic acid injection on hepatocellular carcinoma. METHODS By establishing a model of transplanted tumor in nude mice, the changes of size and histology of tumor were observed after injecting acetic acid, ethanol and saline. RESULTS Transplanted hepatocellular carcinoma disappeared before the fourth injecting acetic acid. The treatment effect of acetic acid injection on hepatocellular carcinoma was superior to ethanol injection. There were no significant toxic and side effects after acetic acid injection. CONCLUSION Acetic acid can be used for local injection therapy on hepatocellular carcinoma.
