Urinary sodium profile in children and adolescents of Rural and Urban schools.

2009
The objective of this study was to evaluate the urinary profi le of sodium in a group of children and adolescents of a Rural and an Urban school. Children and adolescents of both sexes were selected, with ages between 6 and 12 years, total of 73 students from the rural school (RS) and 88 students from the urban school (US). Anthropometric assessment was accomplished and classifi ed by score z defi ned by WHO. It was collected 2 urine samples (Home and in School). The quantifi cation of sodium was done by means of fl ame spectrophotometry. For RS low weight of 7,7% and 2,6% of obesity (male) and for the US 2% of obesity (female) different from male where 5,1% low weight and 5,1% of obesity. The average values of sodium urinary for RS and US were respectively: 4033,4±1517,4mg of sodium/L and 3220,7±1356,2mg sodium/L (p <0,05 RS x US). Urinary excretion of sodium exists in excess being larger for the children of the US
