Nondestructive inspection of the interface by x-ray refraction and high resolution computertomography

1995
With respect to the relevance of the interface properties for the final performance of ceramic matrix composites two advanced x-ray methods (cone beam computertomography and x-ray refraction) are presented. These new nondestructive evaluation methods are able to determine changes of the interface in the manometer range by x-ray refraction (crack density, single fibre debonding) and in the micrometer range by cone beam computertomography which creates a three dimensional map of the local density distribution which is unequivocally correlated to the geometrical structure.
