A utilização da bandagem elástica funcional na estabilidade do tornozelo em atletas de basquetebol The use of functional elastic taping to improve ankle stability in basketball athletes

2014
The inversion ankle sprains are injuries of high incidence in basketball athletes. Several prophylactic techniques are used to prevent these injuries and the use of functional elastic taping has recently gained popularity. Due to this, the aim of this study was to analyze the effects of functional elastic taping on basketball players ankle stability. Seventeen male basketball athletes under-15 were evaluated. These athletes were exposed to stabilometry, using and not using the functional elastic taping, placed on the skin overlying the ankle joint capsule and on the skin overlying the muscles of the dominant side of eversion ankle. As a result, it was demonstrated that stabilometric variable of medium laterolateral displacement, medium anteroposterior displacement and medium speed of displacement showed better overall parameters with functional elastic taping. Before these results, we believe that the use of functional elastic taping provided higher stability and higher support of the ankle joint in the standing position, and can be used with the purpose of preventing injuries in this joint in basketball athletes.
