Dielectric losses in power transformers under high frequency transients

1992
The signals propagated at various points of transformer windings were measured as a function of frequency from 1 kHz to 600 kHz. Investigations into the transient behavior of transformers using methods other than the ones based on dielectric modeling lead to results which are different from those obtained experimentally. A methodology for estimating network model parameters for dielectric losses is developed. The winding capacitances are calculated by the finite element method, and the dielectric losses are modeled by an equivalent RC network. Introduction of the dielectric losses into the transformer model gives results which are in good agreement with measurements. >
