The European Commission's forward-looking Intellectual Property Package of 16 July 2008

On 16 July 2008 the European Commission adopted three initiatives described as "forward-looking package". This package involves a legislative proposal, a green paper and a communication. Two of those initiatives relate to the field of copyright and the communication concerns industrial property. All three are expected to spark a lively debate on IP reforms and strategies. This article presents in detail the full range of copyright initiatives at Community level (I.) and goes on to discuss two of the more relevant topics to the ICT sector: patent quality (II.2.) and enforcement of IP rights (II.3.).
