Sulfur-metabolizing enzymes in oil-contaminated soils

2002
The effect of oil contamination on the activity of sulfur-metabolizing enzymes in gray forest soil and leached chernozem was studied in long-term experiments. It was shown that low loads of mineral oil stimulate the enzymatic activity, and high loads inhibit it. Oil contamination increases the population of thionic and sulfate-reducing bacteria and worsens the supply of plants with available sulfur.
