Research on the Mechanism of Influencing Factors of Construction Workers’ Unsafe Behavior Based on DEMATEL and ISM

Abstract To perfect unsafe behavior management theory system of construction workers, this paper extracted the influences on unsafe behaviors from perspectives of man, material, management and environment; explored the relationship among the factors and the degree of influence on unsafe behaviors by methods combining the advantages of decision-making and trial evaluation laboratory (DEMATEL) method and Interpretative Structural Modeling (ISM) method integration. We established a multi-level step-up structural model of the factors influencing the unsafe behavior of construction workers and eventually found out the surface influences, moderate influences and key influences on unsafe behavior. It is found that the key influences contain coworkers, concerns of the leaders on safety, social norms and so on. As a result, enterprises should strengthen the consideration of such factors when it comes to measures controlling the unsafe behaviors of construction workers. This paper will help to improve the safety production level of the construction industry.
