Cyclic thioether and acyclic thioether-thiolate complexes of pentamethylcyclopentadienyl ruthenium(II, III)

Abstract The reaction of [Cp*RuCl 2 ] 2 ( 7 ) (Cp*=η 5 -C 5 Me 5 ) with S(CH 2 CH 2 S − ) 2 (tpdt) and trithiacyclononane (9S3) gave the monomeric complexes Cp*Ru(tpdt) ( 6 ) and [Cp*Ru(9S3)](PF 6 ) ( 8 ) as dark purple and yellow crystals, respectively. Treatment of 6 with 7 and [(C 6 Me 6 )RuCl 2 ] 2 ( 2 ) led to the isolation of RuRu bonded complexes [Cp*Ru(tpdt)(Ru(Cl)Cp*](PF 6 ) ( 9 ) and [Cp*Ru(tpdt)(Ru(C 6 Me 6 )](PF 6 ) ( 10 ) as dark red and purple crystals, respectively. The complexes, 6 and 8 – 10 have been spectrally and structurally characterized.
