Method of diagnosing Alzheimer's disease employing sFRP-1 as a biomarker.

2011
The invention relates to a method for diagnosing Alzheimer's disease, comprising the following steps consisting in: (a) detecting and/or quantifying the expression product of a nucleotide sequence of an sfrp1 gene in an isolated sample; (b) comparing the detected and/or quantified quantity with a reference quantity; (c) identifying any significant deviation in the comparison of the data from step (b); and (d) attributing the significant deviation identified to the presence of Alzheimer's disease. The invention also relates to the use of a kit comprising primers and/or probes that hybridise with the nucleotide sequence of an sfrp1 gene or antibodies that bind specifically to an amino-acid sequence encoded by the nucleotide sequence of an sfrp1 gene in order to determine the presence of Alzheimer's disease.
