Automatic Categorization of Introductory Programming Students using Cluster Analysis

We present the preliminary results of an ongoing study on using clustering techniques to automatically categorize the learning stage of students at the end of an introductory programming course. We have obtained some success in inferring some learning stages but work remains to be done to classify students at the intermediate levels.
