Reexamination onf V. L. Komarov's collection sites in North Korea -mainly based on Flora Manshuriae-

2003
Russain botanists, V. L. Komarov conducted his plant exploration in Hamkyoung-nam-do(=Yang-gang-do, current name of province in DPRK), Ham-kyong-buk-do, and Pyong-an-buk-do (=Ja-gang-do) of North Korea From May, 10 to early September 3rd of 1897 and collected ca. 2888 specimens. He listed nine new taxa in his book as well as more than 40 taxa in his former publications in detail. Unforgunately all collection sites of new taxa werer described in the Russian pronunciation. Therefore, it is very difficult to pinpoint those sites with the current or the old Korean map. From this study, many labels and misspelled names were reviewed using both the Russian and the Japanese translated version and presented based on the current provinces with local names and the GPS data. In addition, many lables of syntypes deposited at NY and A were rechecked and revised based on this study.
