Effectiveness of serum inflammatory mediators in prognosis for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease

2011
Objective The aim of the investigation is to discuss the affect of serum inflammatory mediators and to predict value of different disease States of patients with COPD.Methods The level of plasma TNF-a and CRP and the pulmonary function(FEV1%) were tested in AECOPD pre-treatment,post-treatment,twelve-week later and in the stable state. The studied parameters were analyzed using the single factor variance analysis. Two groups of data were compared using the t-test.The various parameters were also studied using correlation analysis. Results The level of plasma TNF-a and CRP in AECOPD pre-treatment were significantly higher than post-treatment,twelve-week later and in the stable state(P0.05).The level of plasma TNF-a and CRP in pre-treatment were significantly higher than that the 12-week later of AECOPD and than in the stable state(P0.05).But between the latter two time periods there was non-significant difference(P0.05).The level of FEV1% predicted in AECOPD pretreatment were significantly lower than others(P0.05).TNF-a correlated with CRP and FEV1% predicted(P0.01).A positive correlation existed between TNF-a and CRP(r=0.848,P0.01).A negative correlation existed between CRP and FEV1% predicted(r=-0.710,P0.01).A negative correlation existed between TNF-α and FEV1% predicted(r=-0.771,P0.01).Conclusion The level of plasma TNF-a and CRP in patients with acute exacerbations of COPD pretreatment could prognosticate the severity of acute exacerbations of COPD and infection. The level of plasma TNF-a and CRP was correlated with the degree of airflow limitation.
