Implementing Custom Protocols

When developing a client-server application, you have to make protocol choices at two levels. First, you must choose a transport protocol. The most common types are TCP and UDP. We will look at that decision in Chapter 7. The second choice is at the application level. Some common application protocols include HTTP, FTP, and SMTP.
