Toward Sustainability, Health and Well-being in Society: How Can Open Innovation Help?

Issues as sustainability, health and well-being are center stage in current discussions on how to improve our lives, and how we will leave our planet for the future generations. Even though an increasing amount of organizations are taking these issues to heart in their strategic, managerial and operational developments, there are many barriers that prevent them from successfully implementing innovation models to address such grand challenges. These challenges are important for research and practice as they are critical barriers in the face of addressing an important societal problem, while they can also be somehow ill- defined and highly complex. As it has been recognized that solving these challenges requires coordinated and collaborative efforts, it is becoming clear that we need a more open and inclusive approach to fully understand the underlying challenges and to develop new science, innovation and management models to address these challenges.
