Umbilical cord - placental separation: a complication of IUD failure.

1973
A case study of a 35-year-old woman gravida 8 para 7 admitted at term labor was reported. A Lippes loop IUD had been inserted 18 months previously and had been without complications 8 months after insertion. At 3 months of pregnancy an X-ray of the abdomen confirmed the presence of the IUD. A spontaneous delivery of a placenta before the infant was delivered due to the implantation of the IUD at the junction of the cord and the placental margin. The case represents a potentially dangerous c omplication of delivery specifically due to an IUD.
