Strength and resilient behavior of lime modified pond ash as pavement layer

2020
Abstract The scarcity of conventional materials for road constructions on one side and management of production of coal ash (pond ash) from thermal power plants is on the other side are the significant challenges faced by the construction industries. Therefore, the use of pond ash as pavement construction material in bulk quantity could minimize these issues. In this context, an attempt has been made to understand the engineering behavior of untreated and lime treated pond to ascertain its feasibility in pavement applications. The engineering parameters considered in the study include unconfined compression strength (UCS), California bearing ratio (CBR) and resilience modulus (MR). From the results obtained, it was observed that the addition of lime has contributed to enhancement UCS, CBR and MR of pond ash. Further, the obtained MR values were validated against the stress-dependent models established by the previous researches.
