Preparation and properties of self-healing anticorrosive coating on methyl cellulose core-shell fibers

2021
Abstract This work reports a core–shell fiber coating with self-healing and anticorrosive properties, which combined fibers with a silicone coating (PDMS) material for the corrosion protection of carbon steels. We innovatively encapsulated oleic acid (OA) into the methyl cellulose (MC) shell material by using electrostatic spinning. EIS, SKP and FTIR mapping test indicate that the MC-PDMS coating shows an excellent self-healing performance in 3.5 wt% NaCl solution (pH = 11.7). OA protective film was successfully formed in the damaged area. It has an important reference value for the development of new self-healing materials in the field of marine corrosion protection.
