El Castellot de Bolvir i l’Espai Ceretània

2016
The Castellot de Bolvir site (Cerdanya) is the first known Iberian-Ceretani oppidum to be extensively excavated in the Catalan Pyrenees. It has a long history, starting in the early Iron Age and continuing until the twelfth century of our era. It underwent an interesting stage of occupation in the period of the Roman Republic (second to first centuries BC), during which the oppidum was occupied by a small Roman garrison, which considerably changed the site. Some significant elements, such as the construction of a new gateway or the activity of a metal workshop show the strong relationship of this settlement with the network of Roman occupation at the time. In January 2015, the Castellot interpretation centre was opened. Called the “Espai Ceretania”, the aim of this centre is to provide information on the historical and heritage value of the site, and make it into a benchmark for studies on the ancient world in the Catalan Pyrenees.
