(Z)-hepten-2-ol and its acetate are known to be characteristic components of banana flavour where they exhibit high enantiomeric excesses in favour of the (S)-configuration isomers. In order to elucidate the structure-activity relationships of these compounds the optically pure (Z)-4-hepten-2-olenantiomers were prepared via MPLC-separation of their diastereomeric MCPP-esters. The 1 H-NMR behaviour of these esters led to the absolute configurations of the enantiomers. The corresponding short-chain carboxylic acid esters were synthesized
