Local application of budesonide for sinusoid mucosal epitheliosis of chronic rhino-sinusitis after endoscopic surgery

2008
AIM To evaluate the role of budesonide locally applied for sinusoid mucosal epitheliosis of chronic rhino-sinusitis after endoscopic surgery.METHODS A total of 176 patients with chronic rhino-sinusitis were randomly divided into treatment group(n=82)and control group(n=94).The patients in treatment group were locally applied with budesonide gelfoam adhesives during and wk 1,wk 2 after the surgery.;the other therapies were the same as those of the control group. The re-epitheliosis of nasal mucosa was observed under nasal endoscopy during a follow-up over six months.RESULTS The average time of re-epitheliosis in the treatment group was(5.7±s 1.1)wk,vs(7.4±1.6)wk in control group, with significant statistical difference between the two groups(P0.01).Six months follow up revealed 81/82 and 85/94 re-epitheliosis in treatment group and control group, respectively, showing obvious difference(P0.05).CONCLUSION Budesonide locally applied in chronic rhino-sinusitis after endoscopic surgery can apparently promote re- epitheliosis and shorten the treatment course.
