The Study and Evaluation of the Design and Manipulation of PC Game Pad

In the recent years, as to the social requirement the computer has become part of modern life. With the abundant of living, the people consider the leisure life being more and more important. With the progress of electronic technology, the way people to take the leisure life become more and more variety hence by using the computer peripheral to assist people to make pleasure is becoming more and more popular. Among them, there are a lot of people utilize the PC game pad as the machine manipulation interface. According to the pc game pad marketing project report, in the current market there are 4 types of pc game pad been ranked as top 4 most popular models. Hence in this project, from the view point of Ergonomics, we select these 4 popular models for experiment. These 4 types are differentiated by their overall volume and modeling design. We also select students, 6 for male and female each, for this experiment to manipulating the pc game pad. They will randomly select the pc game pad model and perform the same pc game-Vietnam War (Ⅱ), by continuously trigging the striking key. The motion of muscles will be detected by the physical instruments and acquired via signals of EMG and finger force meter (Load Cell Sensor). In the meantime, we perform a subjective evaluation questionnaire survey for every testing student to collect their perception on using the pc game pad. The collected data were analyzed by using the SAS software, and we found the pc game pad which ”has smaller volume and with handle design” needs less force to trigger. This result shall be valuable reference for the relevant manufacturer for improving their future design.
